EDOSA OGIUGO (b. 1961) Edosa Ogiugo is a Nigerian modern impressionist painter. He began his career as a secondary school Art teacher in 1979/80 before earning a National Diploma (OND) in General Arts in 1982 and a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fine Arts (Painting) in 1985, both from Yaba College of Technology. Over the years, he has worked as an illustrator, creative director, lecturer, and community advocate. Since 1992, he has been a full-time studio artist, maintaining art studios in both Port Harcourt and Lagos, Nigeria. Ogiugo has taken part in numerous group exhibitions and hosted a solo show, First Steps, at Signature Gallery, Lagos, in 1995. In 2014, he trained with London Fine Art Studios and has undertaken annual self directed residencies in various UK studios since 2011. His commissioned works feature in public, private, and corporate collections worldwide.Inspired by the freedom and elegance of movement, Ogiugo draws themes from his environment, including horses and female traditional dancers. He often compares his work to Edgar Degas� paintings of ballerinas and Claude Monet�s water lilies, reflecting a similar appreciation for grace and beauty in motion.As the founding president of the Guild of Professional Fine Artists (Nigeria) from 2008 to 2012, Ogiugo has played a significant role in the Nigerian art scene. He is currently a member of the Fine Art Trade Guild (UK) and the Society of Nigerian Artists (SNA). A passionate mentor, he actively supports young Nigerian artists, believing this is essential to leaving a lasting legacy.
